"the best looking girls are staying inside"

I have rediscovered my love of Belle and Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister today as it plays in the changer with JV's Pixel Revolt, AC Newman's The Slow Wonder, Johnny Cash's American III: Solitary Man and John Mellencamp's Rough Harvest (shuddup, all of you). I guess that the B&S was just way too overplayed for a while, but damn if it wasn't fun just now to hear "Judy and Her Dream of Horses." See, occasionally I still discuss music, even if it is to rattle off a list of what's in the changer and to wax nostalgic for the 9-7.

In other ranting, I went shopping with my girl-gang compatriot Miss Martha on Sunday, and we went to the American Apparel store on Walnut. Does anyone else remember the Units stores that were mall staples in the mid- to late-'80s? Well, AA is the new Units. All their stuff looks like it can convert from a skirt into a tube top. Sorry, guys, but putting slutty hipsters in your advertising isn't going to change the fact that you're a retread of really crappy separates for the casual lady. I don't care how many ironic mullets your salespeople have.

(That being said, there ain't no shame in my love of their plain and ringer T-shirts. Even if I do have to wear a ladies XL.)

school's out!

I am finished with coursework for my Ph.D. I will never have to set foot in a classroom as a student again. This is inconceivable to me. Now it's time to start on my diss proposal and studying for exams. And I have a diss topic! Life is getting infinitely better.

bullet the blue sky

So I'm sitting at home, working on my damn papers when I hear this massive sonic boom. I look out my window and see four fighter jets speed over Center City. A few moments later, I see four military helicopters do the exact same thing. I was taking notes on a DVD, so I switched the TV back to cable to figure out what coming of armegeddon was occurring.

I'm a freakin' moron. They were flyovers for the Army/Navy game, which is going on a few miles from my house.
