why does this bother me?

I just saw a Target commercial which uses the Beatles' "Hello Goodbye." Now, I'm usually of the "BFD that a song is in a commercial" ilk, but something about this specific ad just rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it's the bad pun. Everytime "Goodbye" is sung (by a breathy, female voice), the term "Goodbuy" appears on the screen. It's just cheesy. I guess I just expect more from Tar-jhay.

Just have to agree with you on that one. I saw the commercial and just didn't like it. I mean come on, a Beatles song in a Target commercial, whatever. The thing that got me the most was the the fact that "goodbye"is meaning a "good buy" here. The rest of the lyric is "I don't know why you say goodbye". Couldn't that be misconstrued into telling the consumers that there are no good buys? Just a thought. Maybe it's just the fact that the Beatles should be cherished, not sold out as a marketing concept/promotion for something as as irrelevant as a department store. But hey, the marketers did their job, here we are blogging about this store. They reached us didn't they?
