in my time of dying

When I pass, dear friends and family, please promise me that my corporeal remains are not placed in any of these. I love the Red Sox. I'm writing about issues of birth and death and ritual and mourning in relation to the Red Sox. I do not need to be buried in a Sox casket or have my remains displayed in a Red Sox urn. [Thanks, Soxaholix!]

it's a new dawn, it's a new day

This AP story is indicative of the new era:

Perched high above his raucous teammates, David Ortiz sprayed bottles of bubbly in every direction, dousing everyone in sight, including himself.

Then it was time to deliver a message.

"When you wear Red Sox on your shirt," he hollered from atop a clubhouse table, "you're good at something."

2004 exorcised the demons; 2007 is the resurrection. My love of Big Papi is eternal.

so, have i picked a candidate now?

Barack Obama, in New Hampshire for the debate, apologizes for interrupting the Sox/Yanks contest last night. This could be a man after New England's heart. Didn't prevent us from getting our asses beat. I can say this--I don't hate Derek Jeter. I have a begrudging respect for the man. Plus, he doesn't talk shit; he just goes out there and does his job. Alex Rodriguez, on the other hand, has a special place in baseball hell reserved for him. He's a pouty primadonna. I think I may only be disgusted by Barry Bonds more at this point. So losing on an A-Rod home run pisses me off to no end.

In happier baseball news, I'm loving that Shane Victorino's walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth won the game for the Phils yesterday. Especially since it was Shane Victorino Hula Skirt Figurine Day.

get out the brooms, it's a sweep!

Four homers in a row. That was an amazing feat to witness.

baseball is the new 24

Dude, I am definitely heading up to Nashua this summer to witness the return of El Guapo!. Rich Garces is one of my favorite ridiculous players of all time. I am way too excited about baseball.

that time of the year

I just bought my first baseball tickets of the season. Granted, they're for the last spring training game before the season starts, but it is Phillies vs. Red Sox.

I miss having season tickets, but since we have no idea where we're going to be this summer, it doesn't make sense to shell out for them. Oh well.
