I made my way out to Northsix last night to catch Hunters, Run! for the first time in several months. (Four, as it turns out — thanks, past shows page!) At the October 2005 show at which I first saw them, I found myself enjoying some songs and being less taken with others — the best elements of their sound were impressive, but the set didn’t quite fit together as a whole. Last night’s set found them shoring up the highlights of their sound — the disparate elements of the group, from aggressive lead guitar to abundant percussion, felt focused, and the energy level on stage never faltered. I hear just a bit of RFTC in their sound — never a bad thing — but there’s a noisier, more distorted aspect at work as well. Really, it’s less a case of who else they sound like; more importantly, they’re clarifying just what the Hunters, Run! sound is.
