Not a lot of time on the homefront so far this week; I’m spending this scenic St. Valentine’s Day at home in Brooklyn, enmeshed in assorted spring cleaning-esque activities and listening to the Meat Puppets’ Mirage, which I’m digging so far, though not as much as Up On the Sun or Huevos. Also, just finished the seventh issue of Casanova, and I’m feeling pretty impressed by the whole thing. (There’s also a sure-to-make-the-roommate happy Eames chair reference in it.) It’s an amalgamation of pop song aesthetics, spy fiction, and 60s-era sci-fi, and it all comes together; can’t much argue with synchronicity.
Up the Empire played the best set I’ve seen from them over the weekend: it was the most focused I’ve seen them live, and the addition of some guest musicians helped expand their already-full sound.
Also, via Martin comes this link on meeting your Flickr crush, which almost made me wish I had one in order to try some of the suggestions. Also in step with the nature of today’s holiday comes a themed entry on my favorite film-related site.
