Just shy of three years ago, I was driving up I-5 towards Seattle. It was late on a Sunday: I’d spent the weekend in Seattle but headed down to Portland for my last day in the northwest to get lunch with Molly and make the obligatory Powell’s stop. (Reading Frenzy too, I believe.) I drove back north, stopping in Olympia for dinner, South San Gabriel and The Streets playing over and over on the car’s stereo, slide guitar and “It’s Too Late” echoing as I made my way towards Sea-Tac.
I’m digging in right now with the goal of having a workable second draft of my novel done fairly soon. South San Gabriel’s Welcome, Convalescence and The Carlton Chronicles are currently on heavy rotation, and I’m very happy to hear that they have a new disc coming out later this year. This is music perfectly paced to break your heart, and I mean that in the best way.
