Via a variety of places, I came across David Mamet’s essay “Why I Am No Longer a ‘Brain-Dead Liberal’”. Am I crazy for not ever finding Mamet to be a particularly partisan writer? Certainly the man’s work is critical of capitalism, but I never really found that, say, there was an implied pro-socialism message to be found in Glengarry Glen Ross. And the essay, though well-written, also doesn’t seem to me to be much more than a call against extreme partisanship, at least in its closing paragraphs.
